For reasons that I feel no need to discuss I have not posted in my journal for some time. The only reason I'm posting now is because I was looking for some icons of the new show Maria+Holic and I couldn't find any, so I started messing around in photoshop and created some of my own. It was kind of fun, so I made some of other pictures I had laying around. It's kind of useless posting icons when I don't belong to an icon community, but if you do happen to stumble across this entry feel free to grab what you want. I'd be happy if you credit, but there's no need to comment if you don't want to. I find it's helpful to save the creator's name with the icons; that way you can save them now, and if you want to use them later you know exactly where they came from.

Alright, so after watching the second episode, I do have some criticism to give Xam'd: Lost Memories. Now that I've made the connection between it and Eureka Seven I can't unsee it, and it seems to be following some similar patterns to that show. My largest objection is the introduction of the three children. I'm sure they're going to play a huge part in trying to bring a "human" quality to the show. Personally, I don't think that an anime should have to rely on using toddlers to bring out a tenderness in their characters. The kids' secondary function will be providing comic relief. I believe that an anime is nothing without short breaks of comic relief, but the kind of humor I saw in Eureka Seven and what I've seen in this anime involving the children has never struck me as funny in this least, and it seems even a bit juvenile. In the first episode, the banter between the school kids and the actions of the main character seemed amusing enough, but if they cut out that form of humor in favor of five-year-old kids crotch-kicking annoying male character I will be very disappointed. Also, I don't care for the crew member that they kicked, or for the officer man. They remind me too much of Eureka Seven, and I can not say that I liked a single character in that show. I'm not sure what I think of Xam'd now. It's like a mix of one of my least favorite anime and Nausicaa, one of my favorites. But I'll continue watching it and hope that it doesn't fall too much into the patterns that I hated of Eureka Seven.

RUN AWAY

So, I just finished watching the first episode of the new anime Xam'd. I must say, I'm very excited. I haven't been reading much about all the new series coming out this fall, but I stumbled on a torrent for this along with a positive review and I decided to check it out. The wholes style of the anime seems reminiscent of Nausicaa, my favorite Ghibli film. I would say that the airships and the mythology were definitely influenced by Miyazaki. Meanwhile, the character designs seem similar to that of the Persona games, giving the art an aesthetic and stylistic appearance. There have been no characters that I have felt an immediate revulsion for yet, and the protagonist seems likable enough. Also, the soundtrack was amazing. However, I wasn't too fond of the opening and ending songs for this anime. While I thought they were excellent songs, they didn't seem appropriate for what I have perceived is the atmosphere of this show. I can't say why, but for some reason they brought to mind Eureka Seven, which I was never very fond of. But maybe that's just me. Besides that, I really have no criticism to give. I'm eager to see the next episode, and I have high hopes for this one!

I know why now! It looks exactly like Eureka Seven! Go figure.

I'm still celebrating that last episode of Geass. I didn't care for Rolo before, but damn do I like him now! That bitch needed to die. We'll see later whether or not he actually killed her, though. And who his next victem will be.

Did you guys notice that Anya looks more like Cornilia and Euphie then Nunnally does. And Gino looks more like Schneizel and Clovis then Lelouch. Is Sunrise trying to tell us something, or is this just another example of CLAMP's fabulously unique character designs? My money is on the later, Sunrise isn't that creative.

I liked the new opening and ending sequences. What is up with Sayoko? She was a nobody a couple of episodes ago, and now suddenly she's become the main character (literally).

I'm anxious for the next episode. That's the big problem with watching a series as it's airing. However, you are able to get in on the fun while the hype is still up!

I just got myself caught up on the two latest Geass episodes. As much as I wish Shirley would die (and she probably will now) you have to appreciatethose lulzy LOL RANDUM episodes for what they are. It's not like we're watching this show for some profound storyline, anyways. My favorite part, hands down:

If you can't read it, it says "I have not interested in female bodies". lol, Lulu. Anyway, Kallen's captured, and that sucks, and it looks like we're going to be dealing with a lot of Shirley again. It would have been better if Mao had killed her back in the first season. I miss Mao... ;_;

As part of my self-made promise to keep this journal updated, I've decided to inform you all of each new anime that I watch. So, earlier today I downloaded the first two episodes of Wolf and Spice. Or is it Spice and Wolf? Anyway, it seemed like a pretty decent anime. I loved the opening and ending sequences/songs, and I found the art style clean and dazzling. I liked the personality of the two main characters, as well, and I'm interested to see how the plot draws out, though I have yet to see exactly what the plot will be (I'm one of those people who needs things slapped across their face in order to see them).

However, one thing that bothered me was the extensive nudity. I'm by no means a prude person (quite on the contrary, really) but I do prefer my adventure anime to stay adventure, and not ecchi. I can completely understand the reason that when he found Horo she was naked (as wolves don't typically wear clothing) and I can even understand why, under the circumstances presented such as needing to dry off after the rain, Horo would boast around in her birthday suit, being a very un-modest character. However, it is obvious that the writers created these circumstances simply for the purpose of displaying Horo's perfect anime figure, and not exactly for the sake of furthering the plot. This sort of thing also annoyed me in Elfen Lied. Where nudity is called for in certain scenarios, it is not called for in every scenario. When you insert unneeded scenes of nudity for the sole purpose of giving you're horny loser fanboys something to ~~fap~~ ogle over, you are blatantly defiling your otherwise beautiful piece of art!

Anyways, it probably sounds like I hate this show now, huh? tl;dr I thought that Wolf and Spice was a wonderful anime, but not perfect. Nudity is not the solution to all of life's problems, but other than that, I liked it plenty enough to continue it.

Hey there. I'm posting this because I haven't posted anything in ages and I just gave my journal a whole make-over. I figured I might as well give the world the run-down on the recent happenings of my life.

First of all, my new fandoms. In my time laying dormant I've re-discovered my old love for Yami no Matsuei. I also watched the much talked about anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, and loved it. I think I should watch more things produced by Gainex, as they've always pleased me so far. I have also watched the anime Code Geass, and was very pleased. I'm now watching R2, but I haven't seen the few most recent episodes. And I have watched the show Elfen Lied. I, personally, loved it, but I would be hesitant on recommending it for anyone else. Be sure you know just what kind of show that is before trying it out (ecchi and horror). However, if you were to ask me what my most recent fandom is, I'd have to say the video game Tales of the Abyss. It's the first "Tales of..." game that I've played and I was really impressed. I just finished it two days ago, so I'm really hyped up about it right now! I' m having a difficult time trying to decide if my OTP is Luke/Asch, or Guy/Luke (being the ever-perverted yaoi fangirl that I am). I'll be cosplaying as Anise Tatlin (my least favorite character) at the Kumoricon, along with Jade Curtis (sukikagra ) and Tear Grants (subjecta_code_z ). You see, I only volunteer to cosplay as I character I hate in order to give me something to complain about, so I you do find me there, I suggest you prepare yourself for my unending self-pity.

Besides that, I really don't have much to talk about. I guess I could say that I have successfully completed my sophomore year of High School, and that I'm once again volunteering at the Oregon Zoo over the summer (the best pseudo-job you could ever wish for!). Other then that, my real life is pretty uninteresting. So until next time, Nova out!
